Entries Players Championship 33-34: Luke Humphries looks to avoid nervy Minehead wait as Van Gerwen missing confirms Minehead absence

It is the final Players Championship double header as the ProTour resumes on October 29-30 at the home of ProTour darts in the Robin Park Leisure Centre in Wigan as the race to Minehead concludes.

One player who will not be in Minehead is Michael van Gerwen who left after the first tournament recently and went straight home later releasing a statement confirming his reasoning for throwing in the towel so to speak with the Dutch juggernaut still dealing with issues in his personal life.

Van Gerwen also has a family holiday planned in Dubai so it was very much all or nothing during the last double header anyway. Perhaps surprisingly playing though is Luke Littler who has often snubbed these events and won a title last time out to seal his spot in Minehead. He is in 34th but no doubt will want to play later in the event instead of having an early start so is very much aiming to go higher.

While Luke Humphries is perhaps the biggest question mark. He plays next week and sits in 54th. Peter Wright also is in 56th. With only £2,000 separating Humphries and Meikle in 65th it is within his best interest to avoid any late surges. Both play while Gerwyn Price who sits top ahead of Damon Heta and Ross Smith also takes in the final action.

Jonny Clayton, Kai Gotthardt, Pero Ljubic, Josh Rock are absent alongside MVG and also Tim Wolters. Darius Labanauskas, Stefan Bellmont, Ted Evetts, Jamai van den Herik, Mervyn King, Scott Waites will play next week off the Challenge Tour which concludes on Sunday.
