Each year, the world's best darters compete on the Players Championship circuit for prize money for the world rankings and other rankings. This circuit of a total of 34 tournaments is an important part of the PDC calendar.
The Players Championship tournaments are open to players with a PDC Tour Card. In the event of cancellations, the best players from the PDC Challenge Tour will be asked to fill in, so that the field of participants remains of 128 players. These one-day events offer a substantial total prize money with £125,000 per tournament. But how will that amount be distributed?

Even if a player manages to win only one round, he still gets £1000 to take home. This means that even an early elimination is not entirely without financial reward. For players who make it to the third round, £1500 is up for grabs. This amount can make a significant difference especially for lower ranked players.
Players who reach the fourth round will receive £2500. This means they have won a minimum of three matches. The darters who make it to the quarter-finals will receive £3500 each. Although just short of a final place, any amount counts in the rankings.
This then rises to £5000 for the players who make it to the semifinals. The losing finalist does not have to go home empty-handed. With £10,000 in his pocket, he can still be satisfied, although it is always sour to fall just short of the title.
The player who manages to win the Players Championship tournament will go home with £15,000. This is not only a nice cash prize, but also a big step toward qualifying for various majors such as the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Players Championship Finals and the Darts World Cup.
Playing Players Championship tournaments is the only route to seal qualification for the Players Championship Finals. The top-64 of the Players Championship Order of Merit qualify for this.
