Entries released for PDC Super Series 2: Van Gerwen among withdrawals for next Players Championship tournaments

The PDC Super Series is set to return for its second iteration next week with Players Championship events 5-8 set to take place (16-19 .

Provisional entries have now been released for the trio of events which are set to take place at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.

Michael van Gerwen is the biggest name to withdraw from the events which will act as a precursor before the Premier League begins.

MVG had an indifferent opening Super Series with defeats over the four days at different points of the events to Lewy Williams, Darius Labanauskas, Damon Heta and Jonny Clayton without a title claimed.

He then headed to the UK Open where he lost out in the semi-finals to Luke Humphries.

This means that the biggest names involved will include Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Gary Anderson, Raymond van Barneveld and top seed Joe Cullen.

Joining the World Number Two on the withdrawal list include Wesley Harms and Cristo Reyes who have not been seen on the tour in over a year.

Florian Hempel and Robert Marijanovic who were out of both the Super Series and UK Open and in the case of the latter, certain aspects have had to be sorted in his life to commit to the tour.

While Michael Unterbuchner competed in the first lot of ProTours but didn't head to the UK Open, he is not set to return to the UK for the second Super Series.

Harald Leitinger was also involved to begin the season but also won't play any part.

This means that the likes of Chas Barstow, Luc Peters, Lorenzo Pronk, Rusty-Jake and Rowby-John Rodriguez, Gino Vos and Michael Rasztovits will be involved as Associate Member qualifiers.
