We now know the Sunday lineup for the 2025
European Darts Open in Leverkusen. On a dramatic night of
European Tour action,
Stephen Bunting closed out the action with a 6-3 win over Luke Woodhouse, averaging over a ton.
With the likes of Ricardo Pietreczko,
Nathan Aspinall,
Jonny Clayton,
James Wade and Chris Dobey, it was the performances and the victories of
Peter Wright and Andreas Harrysson that in particular stood out for those in attendance and those watching on at home.
Wright narrowly avoided an early exit at the 2025 European Darts Open, edging past Darryl Pilgrim 6-5 in a nervy first-round encounter.
The match looked all but over when Pilgrim raced into a 3-0 lead, threatening to hand Wright a whitewash defeat. But the former world champion dug deep, clawing his way back into contention and forcing a deciding leg. Even then, Pilgrim had two darts to seal the win, but he couldn’t convert — and Wright made no mistake in punishing the miss, sealing a dramatic comeback to move into the second round.
It was far from vintage from Wright, but his grit and experience carried him through a match that looked lost early on.

If Peter Wright’s comeback win was dramatic, what followed was downright shocking. Just minutes after Wright scraped through,
Michael Smith’s World Matchplay hopes were dealt a serious blow by a red-hot Andreas Harrysson. The Swede, who doesn’t even hold a PDC Tour Card, produced a stunning performance to dismantle Smith 6-1 — averaging a sensational 106 in the process.
Smith, needing a strong run in this tournament to boost his Matchplay qualification chances, found himself 3-1 down early and never recovered. Harrysson, playing with flair and freedom, barely missed a beat as he romped to a famous victory.
For Smith, it’s a damaging defeat. For Harrysson, it’s a statement win — and perhaps a question: how does a player this good not have a Tour Card?
