The European Darts Open 2025 will take place at the Ostermann Arena in Leverkusen between Friday, May 30, and Sunday, June 1. Our article features it all. Scroll down to find everything you need!
Gerwyn Price was the defending champion after defeating Dirk van Duijvenbode 8-7 in the 2023 final. He lost 6-2 to Van Duijvenbode in the second round last year. Dave Chisnall won the title beating Ross Smith 8-6 in the final.
Field
The field saw Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen and Rob Cross involved but they have all since withdrawn now the draw is confirmed.
Van Gerwen has announced his intention this past week to not play for some time after splitting from his wife Daphne and with this withdrawal, that is deemed to be the case. Stephen Bunting, Dave Chisnall and recent Rosmalen winner Jonny Clayton are involved though. As is Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall
Chisnall will return to defend his title while Martin Schindler also returns to continue his reign as the German European Tour king in Leverkusen. Due to changes this season, ProTour Qualifiers will have to start in the first round. Cameron Menzies, Raymond van Barneveld and Joe Cullen are among those involved through that route.
Luke Littler is not involved. He has decided to continue his boycott of German events until at least Frankfurt when he returns for the World Cup of Darts in a few weeks time.

Where to watch European Darts Open 2025
The whole of the tournament will be shown on PDCTV in the UK. For those wanting access to the stream, it costs around £49.99 a year and also daily and weekend passes are available.
The whole of the European Tour follows a similar sample size in terms of 12pm and 7pm session starts over the course of the weekend. The first round starts on Friday while the final session featuring the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final is on Sunday.
Outside of the UK, it is shown on Pluto TV for free for fans in the States as well as on DAZN for viewers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Also through Pluto on the DAZN Darts channel. The PDCTV coverage is for all countries also excluding Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is also shown on Viaplay in the Netherlands.
As with all European Tour tournaments, there will be £30,000 for the winner. £12,000 is handed out to the runner-up while semi-finalists gain £8,000.
Quarter-Finalists receive £6,000 with third round losers gaining £4,000. Top names such as Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen among others won't collect their prize money for their rankings if they lose their first match.
This is due to the new system which sees the top 16 on the PDC Order of Merit qualify by right for these events. So those from the ProTour will gain their money if they win their first game. Only the top 32 in this Order of Merit will qualify for the European Championship.

Predictions
Samuel Gill, writer for DartsNews.com sees a potential predictions winner that perhaps is just outside of the big boys. "Martin Schindler is a player to watch as ever this weekend. Michael van Gerwen with his unfortunate split from his wife is unlikely to play and presumably Luke Humphries depends on the Premier League on Thursday."
"As a result we could see a bit of a different complexion to the European Tour akin to Graz where Schindler reigned again. Back in his home country, we saw what Niko Springer did in Rosmalen and he too will be out to prove a point again. So Schindler is my prediction for the title."
Favourites:
***** Martin Schindler
**** Luke Humphries, Jonny Clayton
*** Ross Smith, Stephen Bunting, Dave Chisnall
Champion in Graz, Martin Schindler picked to win again.
Mats Leering, writer for DartsNieuws.com shares a prediction of a certain World No.1. "Looking at the field of participants in Leverkusen, Luke Humphries' name obviously stands out. As far as I am concerned, he is always among the top favourites, so also this weekend in Germany. Furthermore, I thought Clayton left a very good impression with his tournament victory in Rosmalen, and I am curious to see if he can continue this. Martin Schindler always seems to perform well on home soil, so he can also do well. I also expect a lot from Ross Smith, based on his consistent results on the Euro Tour."
"As a Dutchman, I also look forward to the performances of Wessel Nijman, Dirk van Duijvenbode and Gian van Veen. Nijman reached the semi-finals is Rosmalen and I believe he has the potential to win a Euro Tour this year. Van Duijvenbode also impressed in his home country and seems to be fully recovered from his shoulder injury. Van Veen lost disappointingly in the first round last weekend, but with his talent he can always surprise. Other names I will keep an eye on are Ryan Joyce, Gary Anderson and Damon Heta."
Favourites:
***** Luke Humphries
**** Martin Schindler, Ross Smith
*** Jonny Clayton, Dirk van Duijvenbode, Damon Heta
Ross Smith, a European Tour winner in waiting?
Kieran Wood, writer for DartsNews.com sees more shocks after Jonny Clayton's triumph. "If the last weekend's Dutch Darts Championship is anything to go by, I'll be expecting plenty of the higher seeds to struggle and some more of the Friday winners to make it all the way to Sunday Evening."
"Clayton obviously in top form and full of momentum after his win in Rosmalen, but going back to back on the Euro Tour if very difficult. As such, I'm going for Ross Smith to finally get over the line, with the surprise package of the weekend to be Ricardo Pietreczko."
Favourites:
***** Ross Smith
**** Luke Humphries, Jonny Clayton
*** Ricardo Pietreczko, Stephen Bunting, Martin Schindler
Mees Dekker, writer for DartsNieuws.com picks more of a different scope of names including a resurgent Dutchman. "I believe that more of the Pro Tour Qualifiers will go through in this Tour. One player I think could really go all the way is Dirk van Duijvenbode. He’s in great form right now, reaching the quarter-finals in Euro Tour 7, the semi-finals in Euro Tour 6, and also making the quarter-finals in Players Championship 16.
"Another one of my favorites is Martin Schindler. He always seems to perform well when playing on home soil, especially in the Euro Tours. Let’s not forget he won Euro Tour 5, which shows he has what it takes to go deep in a tournament.
"If we’re talking about the bigger names, I’d definitely keep an eye on Rob Cross. Now that he’s out of the Premier League, I think he’ll be very motivated to win this one. He’s got the experience and the quality to make a serious run. Gian van Veen is another interesting name. He’s an exciting young talent, and I feel like he’s ready to win a big tournament.
"He’s the kind of player who could either go out in the second round or surprise everyone and win it all. The last player I want to mention is Ryan Joyce. He’s had a very strong 2025 campaign so far. He reached a final on the Euro Tour, narrowly losing to Nathan Aspinall, and has also made multiple quarter- and semi-final appearances. His finishing, especially on the doubles, has been impressive. If he can improve his scoring consistency, he could become a real contender in the near future."

Pieter Verbeek, writer for DartsNieuws.com sees a few lead contenders especially now Luke Humphries is out. "Michael Smith is in urgent need of a strong result to secure his place in the World Matchplay line-up, and I believe his draw at the European Darts Open presents an excellent opportunity to do just that. He's landed in what looks to be one of the more open sections of the bracket, with Ross Smith and Jonny Clayton as the other main contenders."
"Should Smith manage to reach the final in Leverkusen, we could very well be treated to a showdown between mentor and former protégé. Gary Anderson, who’s opted to make a rare Euro Tour appearance, could be waiting on the other side. If the Scotsman gets past his opening match against Wessel Nijman or Brendan Dolan, I can definitely see him making a run to the final.
"Given Smith’s tendency to lack consistency when he’s required to play multiple matches in one session, my money would be on Anderson in a potential final."
