Exclusive club gets a new member at the World Matchplay: Luke Littler joins Phil Taylor and Luke Humphries

With his outstanding display at the World Matchplay 2026, Luke Littler has joined an extremely exclusive group. The reigning world champion averaged over 100 in all five of his matches, becoming only the third player in the history of the prestigious Blackpool event to achieve that feat.

The performance once again underlines the exceptional form the young Englishman is in. On his way to the Phil Taylor Trophy, Littler posted a three-figure average in every round.

He combined scoring power with remarkable consistency, something that is particularly special at the World Matchplay. Unlike many other TV tournaments, the winner must come through five matches, with the level of opposition increasing each round.

For a long time, Phil Taylor was the only player to reach this milestone. The 16-time world champion even did it three times. In 2010, 2011 and 2013, “The Power” recorded an average over 100 in every match throughout each of his title runs. Those achievements stood for years as proof of his unrivaled dominance on the Winter Gardens stage.

It wasn’t until 2024 that Taylor got company. Luke Humphries produced a formidable run that year and won the World Matchplay without dropping below the 100-average mark even once. With that, “Cool Hand Luke” proved he could not only win matches, but also sustain the highest level for an entire week.

Two years later, it is now Luke Littler’s turn to join that select company. At just nineteen, he adds another special chapter to his rapidly expanding list of honors. The fact he paired it with the title makes the feat even more impressive.

With Littler’s addition, the list of players who averaged over 100 in all five matches across a complete World Matchplay campaign contains only three names: Phil Taylor, Luke Humphries, and Luke Littler. A statistic that once more highlights how exceptionally consistent these three champions were during their winning tournaments.
