"This has to be the greatest campaign at a major, doesn't it?" - Mark Webster backs Luke Littler to win all major titles while touching on worrying situation for rivals

Former professional darter Mark Webster was not holding back when commenting on Luke Littler's impressive World Matchplay campaign. He described it as the 'greatest campaign at a major' as the ominous message sent by 'The Nuke' reaches his fellow competitors.

Never seeing his ending match average dip bellow 109, Littler hit a tournament average of 111.04. He smashed Phil Taylor's tournament record in the process set back in 2010 and was virtually undefeatable throughout.

His last port of call was an 18-9 win over Gerwyn Price in the final. 'The Iceman' played well, but even he could not muster up an answer. Littler is now the only fourth player in history to defend the World Matchplay title, and the first since 2016.

This year alone, Littler has won the PDC World Darts Championship, Winmau World Masters, UK Open, Premier League Darts and World Cup of Darts. There is still a number more major tournaments left to go, but he is the overwhelming favourite to win those ones as well.

However, none of them may be as impressive as the most recent World Matchplay campaign. Webster believed that the 19-year-old could go on and hold every major trophy the sport has to offer simultaneously.

"This is what I keep saying - what do the other players cling on to now? Where is the weakness? What do you do," Webster said on Sky Sports. "He is playing fantastic at the minute and he is making his opponents miss. It is a recipe for dominance.

"The tournament average has been in the back of his mind. He is setting himself a challenge inside a challenge. Winning a major is a huge thing to do but he is setting little challenges within that. It is going to get to the point where he is going to be leaving 170s and things like that because he is dominating contests."

The confidence is flowing on the oche with no one able to stop the him in his tracks. "He is just in a completely dominant mood. He trusts everything he does. You just have to admire it. We probably think he can't get better but he is going to try," he continued.

"He is going to keep craving tournament averages - he just has that will to win. This has to be the greatest campaign at a major, doesn't it? This has to be it. If you look at the stats alone, he has a tournament average of 111. It is an incredible achievement and it is one that in 12 months time he will try to eclipse."

The Welshman was not sure what major Littler would come unstuck in, if any. The only one he has not previously won was the European Championship. "I half expect it [for him to win every major in 2026]. I don't see where you are going to get him. European champs maybe? Players championship? I am just throwing things out there. It is going to be tough for the rest of them."

For the likes of Luke Humphries, Gian van Veen, Price, Michael van Gerwen and the rest, it is going to take something magnificent to close the gap to Littler if he continues playing in this rich vein of form.

"It just sends out a message now to the rest of the pack of the standard you have to reach to get anywhere near him," Webster commented. "Every player from this event will take stock of what happened. Someone like Luke Humphries, it won't wash for him being knocked out in the first round so he will need to refocus.

"Michael van Gerwen has got a huge end to the year. I think he is down at world No 7 now which feels strange to say. There is some work for him to do there now - he was a finalist at the World Darts Championship two years ago so there is some more money coming off. After every tournament you have to take stock, look at what you need to improve on, and get ready for what is the business end of the year now."

Littler will not play much in August, although a couple of Players Championship events in Leicester may catch his eye. From September, it is major season with a number of title defences for him to complete along with attempting to win that final elusive major in Dortmund.
