Fallon Sherrock stuns Michael Smith at Belgian Darts Gala; Kim Huybrechts claims title in Hasselt

Under the watchful eye of an estimated five thousand Belgian fans, Kim Huybrechts took an exhibition title Thursday night at the Belgian Darts Gala at the Trixxo Arena in Hasselt.

Six top darters were invited to this exhibition event. In addition to Huybrechts, Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith, Dimitri van den Bergh, Dirk van Duijvenbode and Fallon Sherrock were also part of the lineup.

The participants were divided into two groups of three players each. Huybrechts was in the group with Van Gerwen and Van Duijvenbode and managed to win both group matches. Van Gerwen won the tie with Van Duijvenbode and advanced to the semifinals as number two.

In Group B were Smith, Van den Bergh, and Sherrock. Smith won the first group match by beating Van den Bergh 3-0. Sherrock then provided a shock by beating Michael Smith 3-2. As a result, she needed only one leg in the final group match against Van den Bergh to secure second place in this group Sherrock succeeded in that mission, as she lost 3-1 to the Belgian, who was therefore eliminated.

Sherrock then got to face the other Belgian in the semifinals. Huybrechts, however, did not get the same treatment as Michael Smith and defeated the "Queen of the Palace" 3-1. Smith then eliminated his rival Van Gerwen 3-2. Then 'The Hurricane' won 3-2 over world champion Smith in the final.
