The Euro Tour circuit continues next weekend with the
Austrian Darts Open 2025 in Graz. In advance an interesting tournament, because the top four of the world is absent in Austria. So that offers opportunities for the other players to put a Euro Tour tournament on their palmares.
Luke Littler took the title on his debut at the Austrian Darts Open in 2024, but 'The Nuke' will not attempt to defend his title. Also absent from this Euro Tour tournament are Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Rob Cross and Gary Anderson.
The Austrian Darts Open ranks as one of the most difficult tournaments to get there by transportation. It is virtually impossible for English players to get to their destination without a stopover. It seems to be the main reason for the top players not to participate in the Austrian Darts Open, and instead play some exhibition events.
As a result, the seeds are headed by
Jonny Clayton. 'The Ferret' himself already enjoyed successes in Austria, as he managed to win the Austrian Darts Open in 2018 and 2023.
The top-16 players in the world rankings, supplemented by advancing players, will enter the tournament from the second round. In addition to Clayton, Stephen Bunting, Damon Heta, Nathan Aspinall, Chris Dobey, Dave Chisnall, James Wade,
Gerwyn Price,
Peter Wright, Danny Noppert, Josh Rock, Ross Smith, Ryan Searle, Dimitri van den Bergh, Mike de Decker and Martin Schindler have been given this status. For De Decker, it is the first time he has been among the seeded players at a Euro Tour tournament.
In addition, the sixteen best Pro Tour players may also compete in the Austrian Darts Open, but they must start the tournament from the first round. The field also consists of sixteen qualifiers from the various qualifying tournaments, including ten winners of the Tour Card Holders Qualifier. Through this qualifier, Berry van Peer, Chris Landman, Ian White, Niko Springer and William O'Connor, among others, managed to qualify.
The Austrian Darts Open was once the first Euro Tour tournament to be held. Justin Pipe crowned himself winner of the very first Euro Tour event in PDC history in 2012. Michael van Gerwen (2013) and Vincent van der Voort (2014) then provided Dutch successes in Austria before Phil Taylor won the 2016 edition. Van Gerwen eventually triumphed four times, as he also picked up wins in 2017, 2019 and 2022. Jonny Clayton was the best in 2018 and 2023, while Littler ran away with the title in 2024.
