Fifth time in a row top seed has failed to get past Quarter-Finals at European Championship

Luke Humphries started the European Championship last weekend as the top seed. However, Cool Hand Luke did not make it past the quarterfinals.

Humphries won four tournaments on the European Tour this year. However, the 27-year-old lost in the quarterfinals after a 10-7 defeat to Michael Smith.

Fifth year in a row

Thus, it was already the fifth year in a row that the top seed failed to reach the semifinals at the European Championship. Last year Price lost in the quarter-finals, in 2020 Cullen did not even make it past the opening round. Van Gerwen also lost early in both 2018 and 2019.
