This Monday, the new Pro Tour season kicks off with the first Players Championship tournament of the year. One of the contenders for the title is Ryan Searle.
The 37-year-old Englishman is known as one of the best players on the floor and has been in no less than thirteen Players Championship finals in the past four years. A notable detail is that "Heavy Metal" usually starts the season strong.
Indeed, in each of the past three years Searle has been in the final of the first Players Championship tournament of the year. In 2022 Searle made it to the final, but then went down 8-4 to Luke Humphries in the final match. For "Cool Hand Luke," it was his first ProTour title at the time.
A year later, Searle was again in the final of Players Championship 1. This time he was successful and with an 8-4 victory over Jamie Hughes, he took the title.
In 2023, Searle delivered an even better performance. The current world number 19 made it to the final in each of the first three Players Championship tournaments of 2024. However, in the final of Players Championship 1, he had to face Luke Littler (8-7). Searle then lost the Players Championship 2 final against Gary Anderson, before taking revenge on Anderson in the final of Players Championship 3.
