Instead of taking a weekend off ahead of the start of the new Pro Tour season, four top darters had traveled to the Welsh city of Swansea Friday night for an exhibition event.
Premier League stars Nathan Aspinall and Stephen Bunting arrived from Belfast, where they had finished the first round of play in Premier League Darts last Thursday. Both players had played only one match there, as Aspinall lost his first game to Luke Humphries and Bunting lost out to Rob Cross.
Completing the lineup were former Premier League participants Joe Cullen and Jonny Clayton, while caller Huw Ware and Sky Sports presenter Polly James also made appearances.
After the meet & greet with the fans and a few legs against people in the audience, the four top darters played two matches each. Aspinall was the only one to remain undefeated. 'The Asp' dealt with both Bunting (3-1) and Cullen (4-3). Against Cullen, Aspinall managed to throw a 102 finish in the decisive seventh leg.
Cullen, however, had won 3-1 earlier in the evening against his good friend Clayton. In the final match of the evening, Bunting triumphed 4-3 against Clayton after 'The Bullet' managed to win three legs in a row from a 1-3 deficit.
Joe Cullen 3-1 Jonny Clayton
Nathan Aspinall 3-1 Stephen Bunting
Nathan Aspinall 4-3 Joe Cullen
Stephen Bunting 4-3 Jonny Clayton
🐍Nathan Aspinall is a 4-3 winner against Joe Cullen in a cracking match that saw Aspinall take out 102 to deny The Rockstar the win in the decider.
