Four-time champion Gerwyn Price withdraws from International Darts Open moments before it commenced

Gerwyn Price has withdrawn from the International Darts Open just moments before the tournament even started.

It has been a tournament that he has loved in the past, winning it four times from five editions between 2018 and 2023. Only Joe Cullen could stop him in 2022, but aside from that it has been total domination by 'The Iceman.'
It will be another year where he will not lose, although that is because he will not be turning up. After competing in the final night of the Premier League Darts in Sheffield ahead of Finals Night, he will not be making the trip to Riesa.
In Sheffield, he stole the headlines after losing to Stephen Bunting in the semi-finals, pointing out a fan and getting them ejected.
As for the International Darts Open, the door has been left ajar for Christian Kist to pounce. Because Price withdrew from the tournament before it officially starting, the Dutchman will be sent straight into the second round. He will play either Ryan Joyce or Jeffrey Sparidaans who compete in the opening match of the tournament.

- The euro tour thrived before the names played them and will thrive without them. The one change the PDC need is to not protect the OOM top 16. If the form or world rankings drop, they need to qualify. While this would reward the players who regularly make the trip.
