Gabriel Clemens delivers for home fans with demolition job win over top seed Dave Chisnall as Joe Cullen moves past Arron Monk

After an exciting afternoon in the second round of the German Darts Championship, full of surprises, the evening session got off to a spectacular start. Joe Cullen edged past Arron Monk (6-4), but Dave Chisnall stumbled against a Gabriel Clemens carried by the German crowd (2-6).

Dave Chisnall still seemed to start well with a 2-1 lead and two 14-darters in his own legs, but the top seed started missing doubles. Clemens took eager advantage. Chisnall had to start throwing 12-darters in some legs to keep up, but failed to do so.

Gabriel Clemens closed with a fine 13-darter. After Chisnall missed two darts on double 20, Clemens hit double 18 flawlessly. He faces Ross Smith tomorrow.

Joe Cullen did not have to exert himself beyond measure against Arron Monk. Although Monk made up for a 3-1 deficit via a 161 finish, Monk could not push through at 3-3. Cullen easily ran out to 5-3 with a 17 and 15-darter. Monk added another leg, but Cullen won with an 84 finish on the bullseye.

Possibly Cullen will meet Michael van Gerwen tomorrow afternoon.
