Kai Gotthardt is making his debut at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship seeing off Alan Soutar 3-1 in sets who previously reached the Last 16 in his last two appearances.

He missed the tournament last year but 'Soots' bounced back with a ProTour title earlier this year en route to qualifying. But after winning the first set, he was dumped out by the PDC Europe Super League winner.

Soutar started off well with a crucial 76 checkout in the deciding leg to hand him the opening set with one of Gotthardt's points bizarrely snapping in half midway through the previous leg. This ironically proved to be a catalyst for him to return to the foray.

The German debutant wrapped up the second set 3-1 to restore parity with a 92.4 average despite 13 missed darts at doubles throughout the opening two sets. But Gotthardt increased his average to 94 as he coasted to the third set without reply to hit the front going 2-1 ahead. Soutar went 2-1 down in the next set with a 111 checkout after Gotthardt steamrollered into a 2-0 lead.

But after multiple misses for 2-2. Soutar finally got over the line to force a decider. He hit a 180 as it looked like he was in the ascendancy as he got down to 144. Gotthardt though hit 134 to go down to 90 and with Soutar missing the chance to force a deciding set, Gotthardt went down to 11 before he finally got over the line to seal the win on double two.
