Gerwyn Price has been eliminated in the battle for the world title at the
World Darts Championship.
Brendan Dolan thwarted 'The Iceman's' plans, winning 4-2 over the former world champion on Thursday night.
While Price certainly didn't play well scoring, the difference was also mostly made on the doubles. Price rarely managed to take his small chances, while Dolan was razor-sharp when finishing.
Already in the first set it became clear that Price would have a particularly tough opponent with Dolan. The Northern Irishman gave a signal in the second leg with a 130 and then managed to win the set with a beautiful 144 finish.
Price managed to win the second set 3-1 thanks to a 13-darter. The Welshman then led 2-1 in the third set, but Dolan still managed to turn this set around with an 84 finish and a 90 check-out.
Set four again went to Price, who did not surrender a leg in this set. However, Price then missed two chances to take a 0-1 lead in the fifth set. He also missed a chance to take a 2-1 lead. As a result, the set went to 'The History Maker' with a 64 finish, who needed just one more set to eliminate Price from the tournament.
In the sixth set, Price soon had his back against the wall. Dolan took a 2-0 lead and got his first matchdart in the third leg, but his arrow on the bullseye went wrong. Price then came back to 2-2, but could not produce a break against the Dolan throw. The Northern Irishman then finished it off decisively with a 13-darter. Dolan will face the winner of the match between Gary Anderson and Boris Krcmar in the next round.
