Gerwyn Price couldn't practice the way he liked before losing out to Rob Cross in the Quarter-Finals on Night Eight of the Premier League Darts in Newcastle and it also prevented him playing in an exhibition over the weekend.

Price took to his Instagram after losing out to Cross and said that he hoped to be ready for the ProTours in Leicester on Monday and Tuesday. Nearly all of the Premier League contingent are involved with only Michael van Gerwen choosing to skip unlike last week where he was the only name to play.

“Gutted [with] the way I played tonight. Wasn't great prep for the game really, I couldn't practice as much as I'd like to tonight and it showed… hopefully better and ready for the pro tours Monday and Tuesday," Price wrote on his Instagram after crashing out in Newcastle.

With it being a free weekend as such, players are involved in exhibitions throughout the UK and Europe before playing in Leicester starting Monday. But Price couldn't. He turned up to play in Swansea but as he said speaking to Abigail Davies on stage, he couldn't play and had to disappoint his fans on this occasion.

"If I was in Cardiff I probably would've stuck it out," he joked to the crowd. "I'm absolutely gutted I can't play," as the crowd drowned him out jeering the fact he couldn't play.

Currently Price is entered to play in the double header in Leicester over the next few days. But his current state might be that he is preferring not to risk it due to impending ranking tournaments despite letting down the crowd by his own admission who came to see their home hero.

All will presumably come clear and it would be a shame for a player who in recent months has shown some form again and is getting back towards his best after previous injury travails.
