Luke Humphries was defeated 6-1 in the final of Night Eight in the Premier League Darts. Afterwards had to wrangle with a fan on Facebook who accused the World No.1 of being past his prime and that he will fall down the rankings when he loses the World No.1 spot.

The fan in question wrote on Facebook group All things darts: "Humphries prime has truly been and gone, when he loses World Number One spot I reckon we're gonna see him slowly but gradually fall down the rankings."

This of course was an opinion which was widely slammed including by Humphries who replied in a comment which got mixed reaction due to him being the top darting star. "I've literally won two of the last four majors you wally! Couple of bad weeks don't define you. Remember this happened last year the start of the year and look how it ended."

Despite losing to Luke Littler in just over 10 minutes in Newcastle, he still reached the final and is still second in the Premier League Darts. He is way ahead with two nightly wins with 18 points ahead of Michael van Gerwen in third with 13 points.

Gerwyn Price currently completes the top four with two nightly wins also on 12 points. Humphries won the World Masters in January and also sealed the World Championship, World Matchplay and finally Players Championship Finals in 2024. As well as the World Cup of Darts and various European Tour events.

Albeit he is under no illusion at his recent big stage struggles. “It’s frustrating for myself, I come up here feeling really good but it’s just not happening," he said in Gottingen.

“I’ve only won one big stage title this year [so far], the last few years it’s been going better than that.

“Losing in the first-round last week or two weeks ago was a little bit disappointing. I want to prove something for myself.”
