Andrew Gilding is through to the second round of the PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off Robert Owen in a superb 3-2 win.
Gilding will now face Dave Chisnall in the second round after a momentum swinging tie which saw Owen receiving a lot of abuse from the crowd which led to a lot of frenetic celebrations from 'Stack Attack' but he couldn't seal the win despite forcing a decider.
Gilding opened up on double 18 to break. Owen broke back though on double 10. Double 20 saw ‘Stack Attack’ go one away from the set.
Gilding missed 161 on the bull but Owen hit a 61 checkout on double nine to go 1-0 up. Both exchanged holds to begin the second set. But Owen hit double 10 to go one away from 2-0 in sets.
Gilding hit back though with a 105 checkout to make it 2-2. He missed two darts for the set off 97 though and Owen didn’t get a shot off 80 allowing Gilding to return for double 10.
Gilding hit double 18 to break to begin the third set. Owen though hit back on double 10 for 1-1 but missed three darts to hold and Gilding went one away from a 2-1 sets lead.
Gilding missed three darts for the set but Owen missed a dart at the bull for 83 and Gilding made it 2-1 in sets.
Owen though began the next set on double 16 breaking throw as he looked to send it to a decider. A 47 checkout saw Owen go one away and he produced a blockbuster 154 checkout on double 17 to send it all the way.
A 42 checkout saw Owen hold to begin the decider. But GIlding sealed the win sealing three legs on the spin including a 120 checkout to win.
