Glorious Gary Anderson begins quest for third world title with dominant 3-0 win over Simon Whitlock

Gary Anderson has arrived at the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship. In a glorious performance, the former two-time world champion was far too good for Simon Whitlock, winning 3-0.

Having returned to form in 2023, Anderson once again entered the Alexandra Palace with lofty expectations. It didn't take long for 'the Flying Scotsman' to prove why. Routing the first set with a 107 average, Anderson was near faultless.

With Whitlock comparatively only averaging around 80, it was hardly a contest at times. Fair play to the Australian though, showing that trademark fighting spirit he did get a leg on the board in set 2 via a 106 checkout, however Anderson comfortably made it 2-0.

Whitlock continued to battle despite being below-par, opening set 3 with a break of throw. After Anderson had wired the bull to break straight back, Whitlock missed three clear darts for the leg, allowing Anderson to return and this time he made no mistake, levelling up the set. Holding throw in the next leg, Anderson moved to one away from the match and kicking off the next leg with a max, he was in a brilliant position. Whitlock though, with a 14-darter kept the match going but only for one more leg as Anderson cracked in a brilliant 116 to win.
