There are more than a few players who need to use Tuesday evening as a Grand Slam of Darts springboard.
Krzysztof Ratajski knows that, being in the group of death (or one of them), there is no remaining room for failure. At least being edged out by Jose de Sousa means the leg difference doesn't look daunting. The Pole must beat Lisa Ashton well to keep going. The Lancashire Rose will have been frustrated by an opening game against Michael Smith that showcased very little of her best stuff. She'll have another chance here, but like Ratajski, it's possibly the end of the line if she falls short again.
Joe Cullen won't be panicking about his Grand Slam of Darts chances just yet, but he'll also be wary that a potential decider against Michael van Gerwen looms. To get that far, he absolutely has to win, and win well, against Adam Hunt. The Hunter fell prey to an in-form van Gerwen in what was a nasty debut match - the only way is up.
Oh, Mikuru! How close we were to the Miracle on (Pr)Ice. Considering that she's barely played any competitive steel tip darts in ten months, and was up against the reigning back-to-back Grand Slam champion, Suzuki has just come millimetres from the biggest shock in this tournament's history. Instead, she needs to put an agonising defeat behind her and deal with the ever-reliable Ryan Joyce, who himself lost by fine margins against Jonny Clayton.
Peter Wright and Ian White were Group E favourites, but that's all changed now. The likelihood is that one of this pair goes out - though that's not a certainty. The loser of this game will face a big uphill struggle though, and neither will have been pleased with the quality shown in their Friday defeats.
Dirk van Duijvenbode has really cast the aubergine amongst the pigeons. He was the outsider in Group E, but beating Peter Wright gives the big Dutchman a major opportunity to succeed. Devon Petersen will similarly be feeling good after recapturing his mojo and outpacing Ian White. Someone is about to mark their debut with two straight wins - which isn't bad, is it?
Gabriel Clemens is having a serious love-in with the Grand Slam of Darts group stage. After a stroll last year, the German Giant has started in entirely the right fashion this time around. He faces a revitalised Michael van Gerwen - or so it'd seem, anyway. Consistency is key, so can MVG do to Clemens what he did to Adam Hunt? If he can't, you'd back Clemens to pounce.
It's a Welsh get-together as the World Cup champions put their friendship aside and face off. Group G could be at stake, and based on yesterday's performances, Jonny Clayton's the frontrunner. But Gerwyn Price has had sub-par games in this tournament, and it hasn't held him back. Expect a much better showing from the Iceman.
Michael Smith's feeling good, he's throwing well, and - crucially - he's hitting doubles with great efficiency. In this form, he can win big things. Smith won't be getting ahead of himself just yet though. His next challenge is a big one; Jose de Sousa beating Krzysztof Ratajski is a step towards improving his TV form, while beating Smith is a moon-step towards the knockouts.
