Gian van Veen once again managed to get the better of
Raymond van Barneveld on Friday night. 'GVV The Giant' won 6-3 over 'Barney' in the first round of the
International Darts Open.
The two Dutchmen also met at the end of March in the opening round of the German Darts Grand Prix. Van Veen also won then, but it was a hard-fought 6-5 victory.
''It's incredible that I play against him in Munich and at the next Euro Tour I play against him again I think it's even at the same time, the sixth match of the evening,'' Van Veen commented afterwards.
Still, Van Veen loved being on the stage again with the five-time world champion. ''As I said two weeks ago, it's a great honour to share the stage with him and even beat him. I think we both didn't play great, but I'm just happy with the win.''
With his victory over Van Barneveld, Van Veen earned a duel with Rob Cross in the second round. ''He's obviously a fantastic player, but I know what I have to do to beat him. Our matches are always exciting, so we'll see what happens next.''
