In recent months during lockdown, the abuse that is suffered by darts players has been highlighted further and this time it was Daryl Gurney who was the victim of death threats.
Gurney lost out to Vincent van der Voort in the second round of the
World Matchplay. Afterwards, Matthew Ward, manager of 'Superchin' who heads up the MDA Promotions stable took to his twitter.
He spoke about a 'horrendous amount' of abuse including death threats and urged people to think before sending these messages.
"After last nights game an horrendous amount of abuse was forthcoming ..why because he lost to let’s be honest the better player. Vincent was great did Daryl give up ? No so why the hate? wishing death on someone’s family is beyond the line," he wrote on Gurney's Twitter account.
I’ve said before any hate just gets blocked and Daryl won’t see anything I’m the filter please think before you say horrific things about people you really don’t know what effect it could have."
