PDC Chairman, Barry Hearn has rubbished rumours that Raymond van Barneveld was ever in the conversation for the final tenth Premier League spot.
Jonny Clayton took the spot this past weekend at The Masters but for many including players, they had an inkling that the doyen of Dutch darts would be part of the line-up if he won through Q-School next week.
“I’ve heard rumours about Raymond van Barneveld, absolute load of rubbish. Never ever was it in any consideration because it wouldn’t be fair," said Hearn to Online Darts.
“I mean it just basically wouldn’t be fair to the 128 guys who have qualified for the tour.”
Hearn did wish Barney luck in Q-School though and wouldn't rule out a Premier League return but only if the five-time World Champion claims a major.
“Good luck to Barney. Who is to say Barney can’t get back in the Premier League next year.”
“If he goes to Q School, wins his tour card, he comes back and wins a major he’s back in, but it’s a level playing field and it’s transparent.”
