Florian Hempel is through to the second round where he will face Dimitri van den Bergh after an incredible opening display against Martin Schindler at the PDC World Darts Championship.
Hempel won through in straight sets as he continues his wonderful debut year with two 180's, three ton plus checkouts and an 89 average.
Hempel began with a hold of throw in the form of a 50 checkout before Schindler hit back himself with a 97 checkout. A 177 and double 16 saw Hempel go one away from the opening set.
A 156 checkout for Hempel saw him claim the set. He hit a 180 and double five to make it 1-1 and followed it up with a 158 checkout. From there, he had multiple darts to win the set but Schindler pinned double nine himself to send it to a decider.
Hempel missed bull for a 161 but also did so on a 41 checkout drifting into the double 12. Before he then returned finally on double two.
He returned in the third set on double four as he looked to head towards the conclusion. Schindler set it at 1-1. Double eight saw Hempel go 2-1 up. A 114 checkout saw him claim the match and complete a superb display.
