In Leicester, the eighth Players Championship of the year was completed yesterday. The title went to Wessel Nijman, who beat Joe Cullen 8-4 in the final. For Nijman, it is already his third ranking title of the season, having previously won a Players Championship as well as a European Tour event.
The highest average at
Players Championship 8 was recorded by the Englishman
Dave Chisnall. “Chizzy” overpowered the German Martin Schindler 6-1 in the last 32. In that match he posted a 111.72 average. Chisnall eventually fell in the quarterfinals after a 6-4 defeat to Nijman.
Jurjen van der Velde registered the second-highest average of the day. The young Dutchman defeated the Englishman Ryan Joyce 6-2 in the opening round. Van der Velde averaged 107.24 in that match. He would ultimately lose 6-5 a round later to his compatriot Sietse Lap.
The top three averages at Players Championship 8 is completed by
Dirk van Duijvenbode. “Aubergenius” beat the German Marvin Kraft 6-3 in his opener and posted a 106.39 average. Van Duijvenbode reached the last 32, where he went down 6-4 to the aforementioned Lap.
Michael van Gerwen starts this weekend as defending champion at the German Darts Grand Prix
The Players Championship now pauses for a couple of weeks and resumes on Monday, 13/03. The ninth event of the season is scheduled in Wigan that day.

The PDC Pro Tour is certainly not stopping in the meantime, as the
German Darts Grand Prix gets underway in Munich this weekend. Michael van Gerwen starts that tournament as defending champion, after beating his compatriot Gian van Veen 8-5 in last year’s final.
