Highest averages Players Championship 7: Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen sit in top 10 with surprise leader

In Leicester, the seventh Players Championship of the year was completed yesterday. The title went to Ryan Searle, who proved too strong for Alan Soutar in the final with an 8-3 win. For Searle, it is the seventh consecutive year in which he has won at least one tournament on the PDC Pro Tour. For Soutar, it remains at one Pro Tour title for now.
The highest average at the seventh Players Championship of the year, however, went to another player. Ireland’s Keane Barry was too strong for Poland’s Krzysztof Ratajski in the opening round with a 6-2 victory and produced a 109.43 average in that match, the best of the day. Barry eventually reached the semi-finals, where he narrowly lost 7-6 to Soutar.
Gary Anderson delivered the second-highest average of the day. “The Flying Scotsman” beat James Hurrell 6-3 in the last 16 and posted a 108.33 average. Anderson ultimately fell in the semi-finals after a 7-3 defeat to his practice partner Searle.
The top three highest averages at the seventh Players Championship of the year is completed by Chris Dobey. “Hollywood” swept aside Czech thrower Adam Gawlas 6-0 in the last 64 and recorded a 106.09 average. Dobey then reached the quarterfinals, where he lost 6-2 to Anderson.

The top 10 highest averages also features Michael van Gerwen who beat Ricky Evans 6-2 in the opening round and posted a 105.00 average. Van Gerwen eventually made the last 16, where he lost 6-3 to his compatriot Jeffrey Sparidaans.
The Players Championship continues today, with the eighth tournament of the season on the schedule in Leicester.
