Hilarious anecdote about furious Adrian Lewis in a pizzeria: “He stormed out in anger"

Former professional darts player Vincent van der Voort has witnessed plenty of unforgettable moments throughout his long career, enough to fill an entire program with anecdotes. In the Sportnieuws.nl podcast Darts Draait Door, he regularly shares some of his most amusing stories, and this time, he recounted a comical incident involving Adrian Lewis and a pizza order gone terribly wrong.

When asked about his most memorable experience in Germany, Van der Voort immediately recalled a dinner that nearly ended in chaos. “I went out for a bite to eat with Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld at a small pizzeria, one of those places where the guy behind the counter doesn’t speak a word of English,” he explained.

That’s where the trouble began. Lewis, who doesn’t speak German, attempted to order a pepperoni pizza. Sensing an opportunity for mischief, Van der Voort and Van Barneveld decided not to intervene. “The guy behind the counter had no idea what ‘pepperoni’ meant and only understood ‘pepper.’ So we just sat back and watched as Adrian was served a pizza topped exclusively with peppers,” Van der Voort chuckled.

When the meal arrived, it was only the bystanders who found it amusing. Lewis, on the other hand, was furious. He stormed up to the counter, demanding an explanation—speaking English, while the employee replied in German, leading to a comedic yet frustrating standoff. “To make matters worse, they still had to pay for the meal. When Adrian is hungry, he’s already not the happiest person. He took one look at that pizza, didn’t like it, and instead of ordering another, he stormed out in anger. I assume the bill was settled as usual,” Van der Voort recalled.

Adding insult to injury, Van Barneveld twisted the knife even further. “He told me his pizza was absolutely delicious,” Van der Voort concluded. “That made Lewis even angrier.”
