Jesus Salate is set to become the first Argentine to compete at the World Darts Championships after securing qualification by topping the rankings in the CDLC Tour, just pipping Rashad Sweeting to number one.
In the sixth and final event, Salate was eight points clear of his rival. The pair had been tussling for the top spot throughout the whole of 2025, winning two events a piece in the first four events. The final two events in Santiago, Chile, would be crucial on confirming who would travel to London in December.
The pair matched in the semi-finals of Event five, with the Argentine winning three legs in the bounce to win 6-2, and place him through to another final, which he comfortably won 6-0 against Norman Madhoo.
It felt like Sweeting had no choice other than win the final event, and once again faced Salate in the semi-finals. After an even start, Salate won five of the final six legs to reach another final and confirm his place in the World Championships. He celebrated this with another whitewash win over Madhoo.
While many fans will feel aggrieved that Sweeting will not make a return to the palace, it is a huge moment for Argentinian and South American darts, with Salate taking the game up a notch in the area. He is now in a position where he could dominate the CDLC for many years to come, the likes of Sweeting and Madhoo in his dust.
He will now have a chance to once again prove his worth on a big stage, having already competed in the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt. Him and fellow countryman Victor Guillin represented
Argentina brilliantly in Germany, topping Group L with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Finland, before pipping New Zealand to the next round as they won 4-3. Their progress was halted against the former champions Australia, with Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock proving too strong for them. However, if Salate can produce the darts he did at that event, he has a very good chance of making some progress in the World Championships.
