Michael van Gerwen cut a frustrated figure as he couldn't deliver the display on the outer ring that he seemingly wanted against Damon Heta at the World Series of Darts Finals.
But despite that, Van Gerwen moves through to the Quarter-Finals after a 6-4 victory over 'The Heat' with a 96.8 average, four 180's and a high checkout of 124.
Missing nineteen darts at double despite those prior stats was the story of Van Gerwen's night as despite going 2-0 up with a 124 checkout, Heta battled back sealing three legs on the spin despite only averaging 90 to go 3-2 up.
But despite going 4-3 up after pouncing on missed doubles, the crucial moment came to potentially go 5-4 up as he missed a dart from 110 on double 18 then chased round the board and despite MVG missing an initial three darts, he pinned double 10 to break and go one away.
This seemingly broke the spirit of Heta who was down to only 156 by the time MVG hit double nine to win.
While for Gerwyn Price, it was a high quality affair as 'The Iceman' sealed a 6-5 win over Matt Campbell coming from 5-4 down to claim it averaging 95 with three 180's and 50% on the doubles.
A 115 and 76 checkout sent an early statement as Campbell made it 2-2 and a 180 and 85 checkout continued that momentum as he made it 3-3.
Holding at 5-4, he hit a 101 checkout but Price hit back with a 113 checkout to send it all the way. After the ton plus heroics, it was a 60 checkout for Price that claimed it with Campbell sat ready to pounce on 86.
