"Hopefully he takes it as a positive and not a negative": Mardle hopes Wright takes solace from final after Premier League Darts misery

Wayne Mardle hopes that Peter Wright can take solace from reaching a Premier League Darts final again after a campaign of hell for 'Snakebite' so far only recording one win up to Thursday night.

Losing out to Jonny Clayton in the final, the Sky Sports pundit, commentator and former Premier League player sees 'The Ferret' as the perfect example of a player that Wright should be learning from.

"Jonny's story tells Peter that coming back is doable. Two weeks running, he's turned it round and he's absolutely blown the play-off positions wide open," said Mardle on Sky Sports.

"Nathan Aspinall and Michael Smith must be thinking where has this come from. If next week just say a Dimitri van den Bergh or Chris Dobey go and win which they can, then there's even more people in the mix."

"But Peter has to take this as a confidence booster tonight. That was good. I hope he does, it's easy to go away and think I could and should have won, I had a dart to win but remember Peter Wright has been World Number One, he's won two World Championships so to go away not as a winner may not be the final that he wanted."

"Hopefully he takes it as a positive and not a negative. From an outsiders point of view, I see it as a positive but him walking out losing in the final, he shouldn't beat himself up too much because that was a good performance all night."
