Afterwards, Wright was full of praise for Springer. "I spoke to Niko and he's been doing his university degree and he hasn't been able to practice a lot. Now he's past it all, he's told me he's going to try and get a Tour Card. I think he'll definitely get one because he's a fantastic dart player," the Scot says warmly. "It's fantastic for German darts."
As far as Wright himself goes, 2024 hasn't been the best of years so far. Recently however, there have been some signs of life. "Yeah the old guy can still do it!" Wright laughs. "I just love Hildesheim and the crowd here, you're all fantastic. You support all the players which is just great."
Next up for Wright, Stephen Bunting in round 2. "Hopefully Simon Whitlock will let me use his darts again tomorrow so we'll see. These were his darts. I had a throw with them earlier on," Wright reveals. "I was going to throw with the ones I used in Australia but with these, I felt even better."
