Saturday afternoon the second round at the German Darts Championship 2024 in Hildesheim will begin. During the afternoon session, some intriguing encounters are on the menu.
In the first match of the afternoon, Gian van Veen will play Robert Owen, who won 6-3 against Krzsysztof Kciuk in the first round. For Van Veen it will be his first match this tournament because of a bye in the opening round.
Andew Gilding faces Ryan Joyce after his 6-4 victory over Johan Engstrom. The third match of the afternoon is between Daryl Gurney and Stephen Burton. The latter triumphed in the first round against Boris Krcmar (6-4).
Chris Dobey starts his tournament against Mickey Mansell, the conqueror of Matthias Ehlers (6-2). Ross Smith, one of the outsiders for the title at the Euro Tour tournament in Hildesheim then does battle with Nick Kenny. The Welshman showed good form last weekend by winning the Champion of Champions tournament, and defeating Jelle Klaasen in the first round 6-3 here at this event.
The eyes of the Dutch fans will be especially focused on the sixth match of the afternoon session. Then Danny Noppert and Dirk van Duijvenbode will face each other. The winner of this duel will play the winner of the match between Michael van Gerwen and James Wade in the next round. Noppert had a bye in the first round, while Van Duijvenbode was 6-2 too strong for Brendan Dolan.
At the end of the afternoon, Jonny Clayton faces off with Ryan Searle after 'The Ferret' scored a hard-fought 6-5 victory in the first round. The final match of the afternoon then goes to Damon Heta and Ritchie Edhouse.

TV and live stream

The German Darts Championship will be broadcast on PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the German Darts Championship consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12:00, while the evening sessions start at 18:00.
The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Order of Merit qualifiers and the winners from the various qualifying tournaments then make their appearance. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. Sunday will see the denouement of the tournament, starting with the third round in the afternoon session. Sunday evening will be followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

Distribution of prize money

At this Euro Tour tournament, a total of £175,000 in prize money will be divided among the 48 participants. They will receive at least 1250 pounds in starting money. The top-16 seeded players who enter the German Darts Championship from the second round will receive 2,500 pounds anyway.
They do - like the 16 Order of Merit qualifiers starting in the first round - have to win their first match in order for the prize money to count toward the world rankings and the other rankings. The winner of the German Darts Championship 2024 will ultimately go home with the top prize of 30,000 pounds.
