Humphries dumped out by Sedlacek as Price, Wright and Smith through openers at Players Championship 23

The 23rd Players Championship of the season has began in Barnsley on Thursday afternoon with Luke Humphries, the top seed out early on.

On the streaming board, Humphries lost out 6-4 with Karel Sedlacek who has been seen as one of the best players in terms of an associate member and he will not add to his title tally today.

Michael Smith could and he prevailed in a tough opener against 121 average hero, Josh Rock producing a 107 clocking himself to seal a 6-4 win.

While for Peter Wright, he saw off Robert Owen 6-4 and Gerwyn Price produced the same score line to see off James Wilson.

Other notable displays saw Danny Noppert average 106 to ease past Jake Jones and Dave Chisnall saw off Adam Hunt 6-3 with a 102 average.
