Twice coming from a set down against Florian Hempel, 5th seed
Luke Humphries showed the grit and determination required to become world champion, keeping his dream alive at the 2023
PDC World Darts Championship.
"I showed my resilience there I think," Humphries said post-match. "A lot of experience that I've gained over the last 18 months/2 years has allowed me to win that because I probably would've thrown in the towel but I've got a different mindset now."
Having reached the quarter-final stage in three of the last four years, Humphries believes he is now ready to take the next step and go even deeper at this year's event. "I believe that I can go on and win this," the 27-year-old declares. "I'm not going to sit here and say that I am going to win it because it's all talk."
When asked if he feels an extra level of pressure this year coming in as the 5th seed, Humphries is quick to cool expectations. "I still see myself as Luke Humphries the development tour player," he says. "A lot of pundits might probably put pressure on me but I don't myself because regardless of what happened in that game I've had a good year."
"To go on and have a good run here would be great," he continues. "But unless I make the final, it's not an achievement for me."
