Van der Voort left irritated by Menzies after World Darts Championship win: "I really had to restrain myself a few times"

Vincent van der Voort sealed a 3-0 sets win over Cameron Menzies as 'The Dutch Destroyer' breezed past the Scot with the victor receiving the full experience which left him irritated.

Van der Voort said post match that he had to restrain himself from potentially slapping Menzies. "He is a special character," the Dutchman said afterwards as per AD.

"He's a really nice guy, because he's just the way he is, but he doesn't realise how irritating he can be. I really had to restrain myself a few times. That I had to say: now you have to stop. He talks to you before the game, during the game, during breaks.... When practicing, I already said to him: stop now because I need to play against you in a few minutes. I went to the toilet three times when I didn't have to."

He gave Van der Voort a big hug and did not let him go. "I gave him a hand, but he insisted on a hug. I find that super uncomfortable. Nobody gets in that zone with me. When you win you allow a bit more, but at one point I did say: stop now. Otherwise you have to give him a slap on stage, you don't want that either."

Humphries next

In the third round, Van der Voort will play Humphries. Cool Hand Luke narrowly saw off Florian Hempel to set up the clash post Christmas. "There is nobody on this planet with more talent than him. It's only a matter of time before he wins a major title," Van der Voort complimented his next opponent. "But he is also vulnerable and not always consistent. Hopefully I can take advantage of his mistakes and then you have a chance."
