Hunt secures knockout stage spot at Grand Slam as Cullen falls short against Van Gerwen

Adam Hunt will join Michael van Gerwen in the Last 16 at the Grand Slam of Darts becoming the second player on Thursday evening to go through despite only having one win.

Similar to Ian White, Hunt did his job and he did it well against Gabriel Clemens. He defeated the German Giant in a 5-2 win coming from 2-0 down to ask the question and keep himself in the hunt.

It was the turn of Joe Cullen to face Michael van Gerwen and claim at least four legs in order to go through.

He claimed one of four legs he needed to qualify but found himself 2-1 down to Mighty Mike who was already through. A break for Van Gerwen saw Cullen on the brink at 3-1 down but the latter came back to reduce the deficit to 3-2.

Van Gerwen missed two darts at doubles from there and Cullen made it 3-3 but the former made it 4-3 so it was now or never.

It was heartbreak for Cullen as he missed a dart for an 11-darter and Van Gerwen snatched it to hand 'The Hunter' the spot.
