Huybrechts on downturn in form after victory over Thornton: “The standard is getting so high and you need to follow it"

Kim Huybrechts has had a downturn in form over the past 18 months but showed real battle to edge past Robert Thornton on the opening night of action at the European Darts Matchplay.

Huybrechts said that for both players it was a tough game and that they both know what they can do it's just about doing it at the right time.

'The Hurricane' also spoke about the standard and said that it's getting so high that it's so hard to follow it.

"It was a really tough game for the both of us. We know what we can do but we’re not doing it at the right time.” said Huybrechts, who will meet 2019 Austrian Darts Championship winner Mensur Suljovic in round two.

“The standard is getting so high and you need to follow it. After a few losses you will really struggle to get back to the level you were at.”
