Belgium went out against Austria in the second round at the last World Cup of Darts.
Kim Huybrechts does not want to dwell on that disappointment for too long, the 35-year-old Belgian told Dartsnews.com.
Kim Huybrechts and Dimitri Van den Bergh went down 2-0 against Austria. "I was very disappointed afterwards, it was my tenth participation and for the first time I did not reach the quarterfinals. I played a good match against Mensur Suljovic, but if you don't win it doesn't matter much. The feeling was good and the match was good, but eventually you want to win, unfortunately for me Mensur played a top match. Dimitri unfortunately did not play a good match," said Huybrechts.
Suljovic defeat in Gibraltar
Huybrechts was also involved last weekend at the Gibraltar Darts Trophy, a tournament on the European Tour. After a particularly exciting match, he narrowly lost 6-5 to Suljovic again.
"he feeling was good again and I was really looking forward to the European Tour, after all it had been a while since I had played a European Tour tournament. In my first match against Boris Koltsov everything went smooth, both in terms of scoring and doubles. Against Mensur, things just didn't go my way, higher finishes were not possible, and in the end I was quite disappointed about that match. Fortunately I was able to qualify for the European Championships!"
Due to the pandemic, there were few tournaments on the calendar for months, but since early September, the tournaments follow each other in rapid succession. "I think that's much nicer for everyone! You have more to work towards and if it's not your day, you have another chance to perform well again. I'd rather have a busy schedule than a tournament just one weekend a month," Huybrechts is adamant.
Top 32
Finally, we probed about the goals of 'The Hurricane' for the rest of the year. "I will try to reach the top 32 on the Order of Merit before the World Championship starts, although this will be a very difficult task. In addition, I want to play a good World Championship again," Huybrechts concludes.
