Charlie Manby showed his star on the
PDC World Darts Championship stage but while the 'Champagne' has opened, the headlines unexpectedly told a different tale and that was of
Cameron Menzies Ally Pally table meltdown.
Menzies was waiting as Manby celebrated but he decided as Manby approached to
start punching the table in anger after losing in a deciding set. This induced blood from the hand of the Scot who has been known for his outbursts in the past but not to this level.
As per Online Darts, he released a statement after the game which was relayed that he has not had the best time of it as of late with his uncle passing away and that the funeral would've been on the day of his second game. But that while the grief might be an excuse on paper, he isn't using that and said that what happened shouldn't have taken place.
In particular, he apologised to Manby for taking the shine away from his big moment and that he deserved the win. Finally he said he doesn't want people to view him only for this outburst and that it isn't him.
“First of all, I would like to apologise for what happened. I am sorry that I reacted in the manner that I did. It’s not an excuse, but I have had a lot of things on my mind recently and I suppose it all just became too much at the end," said Menzies as per
Online Darts.
“It has not been an easy time for me with my uncle Gary passing away recently. I saw him four days before he died and he gave a look which told me how much he thought of me. He treated me like a son.
Had I won the game against Charlie, my second match would have been on the day of Gary’s funeral and that has not been lost on me in recent days.
“Let me say again, that’s no excuse for what I did on the stage. It was the wrong thing to do and I don’t want it to take anything away from Charlie. He played well and deserved his win.
“This is not how I would like people to view me. Yes I can get emotional at times, but not like that and that wasn’t right.”
