Mike de Decker sealed a stunning major final victory at the
World Grand Prix taking down Luke Humphries to win his maiden TV ranked title 6-4 in Leicester and it is a win he could barely believe.
One of the greatest finals in recent memory, it ebbed and flowed and saw De Decker go 4-1 up on Humphries before the Cool Hand Luke train came roaring back and he summed up his emotions after a pretty incredible way to end the week.
"I don't really think I have to sum anything up. I've been crying backstage, there was a moment where I was going to cry two minutes ago. I'm over the moon, I've got this trophy. I've got a major title. I'm lost for words," said De Decker.
"I never said I can't win it, I just said I didn't want to think about it. But at 4-1 up I was thinking hmm I'm kind of close now and then Luke decided to go mental on his finishes. He went back to 4-4. At 4-4 I don't know why but I relaxed and thought he's the reigning World Champion and World Matchplay. It helped."
"I didn't know what to do with myself. I'm so happy, I'm over the moon."
This five years on from Q-School in which he had to go back and seal his Tour Card again in similar fashion to such players as Nathan Aspinall.
"Five years ago when I had to go back to Q-School after losing my card, I lost four days straight and I was thinking that's it, I'm done I don't want to do this. Now look at me now. Major champion, I'm over the moon."
But asked about the Premier League, he said himself that in his view he is not ready yet for the travelling roadshow and that while he would accept an invite, he isn't gunning for a spot.
"I don't think I'm ready for the Premier League just yet. It's 14 weeks against the top eight every single week and it's so hard. I've seen it with Kim, Dimitri, Jelle (Klaasen) who is a good friend. I don't know, if they put me in I'll say yes 100%. It's not up to me so."
