Luke Littler became world champion for the first time in his career earlier this year. 'The Nuke' was only 17 years old at the time, making him by far the youngest ever world darts champion. As such, some believe Littler to be capable of getting close to Phil Taylor's 16 world titles.
Littler is often compared to Taylor, so plans are being forged behind the scenes for the two to play each other in an exhibition match. Something Littler is eagerly anticipating. "I’m sure that will happen soon. Sooner rather than later. To share the stage with him will be incredible. I’m sure we’ll make it happen," Littler says of the prospect to Sport Bible.
Taylor retired for good at the end of 2024. After the 2018 World Darts Championship, where Taylor lost the final to Rob Cross, he already put a stop to his career with the PDC. Afterwards, however, "The Power" was still regularly in action on the seniors tour. Due to lingering injuries last year, however, he decided to put a final stop to his career.
As such, if any match were to happen, it would be Littler who started as the overwhelming favourite. “If Taylor does start practising then it will be tough, but if he just sits at home and then comes to an exhibition then I fancy my chances," admits the teenage sensation.
Taylor previously expressed praise for Littler on several occasions. It was himself raised that he could see a coaching role for the English teenager. "That could possibly happen down the line but as of now, it’s just a case of me focusing on the busy schedule ahead," says Littler.
