Damon Heta ensured Friday that Australian fans can still hope for another World Series title from their "local hero" after Heta managed to get through the first round of the
Australian Darts Masters on Friday afternoon.
Australian number one Heta - runner-up in Wollongong last year - had a perfect start to the tournament. The former World Cup winner triumphed 6-0 against John Hurring in the first round.
“I’m absolutely stoked to get the win,” reflected Heta, who took out 113 and 116 in consecutive legs midway through the tie. “I wish I could do more, I really do. I would love to play my best darts in front of my home crowd.
Still, Heta says there is plenty of room for improvement. “I felt like I was trying too hard, but I’ll take the win any day of the week, and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.”
In the quarterfinals of the Australian Darts Masters, Heta will take on Gerwyn Price in front of his own crowd. The Welshman won 6-2 over Brenton Lloyd in his first match.
