Chris Dobey on the 12th attempt has finally sealed victory over Michael van Gerwen at the
European Championship in a thrilling victory in Dortmund.
Dobey admits that the situation meant that he gave Van Gerwen a way back in after heading towards victory at 4-2 up but that he is relieved to finally have that box ticked in his mind.
"It's been a whirlwind, I think I tried my best to throw that match there. It's just trying to get over the winning line playing Van Gerwen, I know I haven't beaten him and it's in your head. Once you get that monkey off your back, I hope the only way is up and I won't have that feeling anymore," said Dobey to Online Darts.
"I froze throwing at that double 20 and I pulled it into the five and you could see how far I was away from double 20 again and I thought relax and my scoring was bang on again. I'm thinking how can this keep happening but hey it's a win and I'll take that."
"A lot of people know that if my doubles go, I can be a dangerous contender. No-one worries us, I think I'm good enough to beat anyone on their day."
