Beau Greaves will take part in the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts starting next Saturday, making her return to the big PDC stage. However, the 20-year-old Englishwoman will not be present at the World Darts Championship this December, as she chooses instead to defend her title at the WDF Women's World Championship at Lakeside.
Greaves captured her ticket to the Grand Slam of Darts by winning the PDC Women's Series. In her group, she is partnered with former UK Open champion Danny Noppert, German number one Martin Schindler and one of the in form players of the moment, Cameron Menzies.
'Beau 'n' Arrow' was also qualified for the PDC's World Darts Championship due to her dominance on the Women's Series, but, as mentioned, the two-time WDF world champion chose to compete at Lakeside this year as well. As a result, she does miss the PDC's World Darts Championship. "I do (understand her decision), but I've said I've understood it before and I don't know if I'll always understand it," PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter says of Greaves' choice in conversation with Sky Sports. "I do respect it. I understand why she's going to the Lakeside, but I'd be interested to find out how she sees her own darts career unfolding over the years to come. She's phenomenally talented and I'd relish the chance to see her test herself at the Alexandra Palace. I wish her all the success at Lakeside but it'd be nice to see her back at the Ally Pally one day."
Although a number of players have qualified for both the Ally Pally and Lakeside, all must now choose between the PDC and WDF World Championship, with current not allowing players to play in both. Could those rules change? "Probably not in the short term," Porter answers firmly. "There's a lot of history involved in that and a lot of policy around players playing in only one World Championship. If an exception was made, that would disappoint a lot of people who haven't had that opportunity. That has been a rigid policy from both sides and ultimately players will still have to choose."
The WDF World Cup will take place from Friday, Nov. 29, through Sunday, Dec. 8, at Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green. Greaves defeated Dutchwoman Aileen de Graaf 4-1 in last year's final.
