Peter Wright has gotten rid of all his trophies. 'Snakebite' hopes to motivate himself in this way to revive his career. The 54-year-old Wright has taken inspiration from the two top dogs in the sport today,
Luke Littler and
Luke Humphries in an attempt to win another world title.
Wright has had two bad seasons, but had a resurgence at the recent 2025
PDC World Darts Championship. He reached the quarterfinals by beating defending champion Luke Humphries, among others. However, that result proved insufficient to receive an invitation to the 2025
Premier League Darts. The two-time world champion has not been successful in that competition of late anyway, as he finished in last place each of the past two seasons. As such, a year off may actually be a blessing in disguise.
Wright stated in an interview with the PDC that he got rid of his prizes, and went on to praise Littler and Humphries. "I watched the World Championship after I got knocked out," he explains. "Luke Littler and Luke Humphries inspired me with what they did. Especially Luke Humphries with what he's won over the last four months. It proves what you can do and achieve if you put the hard work in."
"Luke Littler is the best thing I've ever seen on TV! That's why he has inspired me to get my finger out," he adds. "I have got rid of all my trophies, got rid of all my darts, so I can start afresh. I want new trophies this year. Last year was terrible and the year before that was terrible. But I'm looking forward to playing this year."
The schedule will be a lot quieter for Wright due to the absence of the Premier League. "I took time off last year and it didn't work, we saw that in the Premier League," he recalls. "This year I am hitting everything again. Fingers crossed my mindset is to use one set of darts. If I can manage that all year, I'll be happy and I will be a big threat to everyone."
