"I was empty and had absolutely no energy left" - Dimitri Van den Bergh resigns himself to heavy defeat against Michael van Gerwen

Dimitri Van den Bergh can look back proudly at the 2024 Masters, the first PDC major of the year, last weekend. 'The Dreammaker' reached the semi-finals in Milton Keynes

In those semi-finals however, Van den Bergh was completely swept aside by his bogey opponent Michael van Gerwen 11-2. Not since 2018 has the Belgian managed to taste victory over 'MVG'.

"I'm empty," he told VTM 2 immediately afterwards. "I ran out of energy. I felt I played more consistently this match, but I got chances especially in the beginning and didn't take advantage of them. Those are crucial opportunities to grow in a match."

Nevertheless, the Belgian is choosing to remain optimistic despite his defeat. "This is a disappointment, but I played a nice tournament," he explains. "Van Gerwen was much smoother and more flexible in his game. It's not nice, but it's part of the game."
