Michael van Gerwen claimed his second World Series of Darts title of the year winning the Nordic Darts Masters on Saturday night defeating Luke Humphries 8-7 in a nerve jangling final.

After seeing off Oskar Lukasiak in round one on Friday, Van Gerwen then took down Viktor Tingstrom in a decider in the next round but not without drama at the Nordic Darts Masters.
He was 5-3 down to TIngstrom who saw off Stephen Bunting but he reeled off three consecutive legs and survived a match dart to squeeze through to the semi-finals. He then saw off Jonny Clayton with a 101 average, he then was 3-1 down to Humphries in the final before hitting back to claim the victory.
"Especially after the first two games of the tournament, I didn't perform as well as I could have done. But more importantly, winning is the best medicine going into the next tournaments, and I showed that tonight," said Van Gerwen post final.

All about bigger tournaments for MVG

But Van Gerwen semi flattened the notion of their incredible matches between him and Humphries saying that he was able to do it when the chips were down which is the main thing over any semblance of a display.
"Sometimes yes, sometimes no. More importantly, you need to do it at the right moments, and today was one of those moments. You want to win and show everyone what you're capable of. More importantly for me and my own game, I was able to bounce back even when things weren't going great."

A second World Series title of the year for Van Gerwen and the 18th of his career and he said that it gives him the shot in the arm he needs heading into a vital time of the season including the World Cup of Darts next week and the World Matchplay next month.
"I can't really complain. I'm doing well in it and to win it again gives me a lot of energy and positivity heading into next week. I'm looking forward to the next tournament and just rolling on to the next one."
Michael van Gerwen looks on.

Giving himself pep talk

He touched upon that World Cup and said that in his mind, they certainly need that shot in the arm to compete despite it the wonder team of sorts as Gian van Veen teams with MVG for the first time.

"Of course. It's always nice when you go into another tournament with a win in your pocket. That always gives you confidence. We'll need it as well because I think it's going to be a hell of a battle, so you need to make sure you're on top of your own game."
He was asked about the crowd albeit he had to get a man who looked like Elvis rejected and said that they aren't getting better despite seemingly being with him in his title run.
"I don't really want to say it that way. I think there's always a few people who can be a bit annoying and sometimes a few people take it too far. That's just the way it is. You need to deal with it and not give them too much energy, because if you give them any joy they'll keep doing it. Unfortunately, darts is getting bigger and bigger all the time, and with that comes people like that as well."
"Don't give them any attention and they'll stop. If they don't enjoy the moment, they'll lose interest. That's the only thing I can imagine and the only thing I can think of, to be honest."

But also, as well as the crowd not being to his liking of sorts, it was also the same with his own display as he said he had to give himself a pep talk and say what the hell are you doing between his games to snap into gear.
"I know. I was gutted and disappointed. I was sitting in the corner thinking to myself, "What the **** am I doing?" But then you need to make the most of it because the tournament isn't over. You have to keep believing in your own ability. That's what I always do, although sometimes it's hard. When you're able to turn things around, it always gives you joy."
MVG sees the bigger picture though that while these titles are great they don't mean one iota when it comes to his ranking and so he is now chasing unlocking further form.
"Ranking-wise these tournaments don't mean a lot, but for yourself and for the rest of the month they can give you a lot of confidence. Luke Humphries, myself, Gerwyn Price—everyone is here and everyone wants to compete and win the title. It's as simple as that."
"Next week is the World Cup, then I'm travelling from Frankfurt to Wigan for the Players Championship events during the week, before heading to Bratislava for the European Tour. Those are the moments when I want to start pushing. I want to improve my form and show everyone what I'm capable of."
