It’s the end of an era, as Duzza
Glen Durrant admits his playing career is over and he is ready to take on the next challenge of his career
Glen Durrant has had a career that a lot of players can only dream about. A 3 time BDO World Champion (2017, 2018, 2019) as well as World Masters winner (2015 and 2016), World Trophy 2018 and 3 times Finder Masters (2015, 2016, 2018). Duzza then moved over to the PDC and won the Premier League Darts in 2020.
It’s a career of incredible highs and achievements that have left Glen Durrant respected in the darts community – from his peers and the fans alike – leaving the man from Boro with nothing left to prove. ''I have been the best player in the world, there was a week in April 2020 where I went to bed thinking I am the best player in the world.''
This doesn’t mean its over for the darts legend though and he still feels he has a lot to give to the sport – but as the passion and fire has gone, Duzza is looking at usuing his knowledge and experience to give back to the sport he still loves. ''I want to be the best coach in the world and I want to be the best commentator in the world.''
It this mentality that will ensure the career longevity of Glen Durrant – he recognises that the sport of darts is moving on without him, which as the old adage goes ‘you always leave something in a better place than when you found it’ and Duzza is very happy to let the next generation pick up where he has left off.
''the two lads I am talking about (Karl Coleman and Richie Parkin), they are on the practice board now, We get here at 4.30 in the afternoon. I don’t have that fire in the belly anymore.''
For all the darts fans who remember the BDO and the week in 2020 of Glen Durrant being the best in the world – that era is now at an end and the three time world Champion is channelling his energies and winning mentality into coaching new players, commentating on the game and building on an already incredible legacy which will last longer than his playing career could have ever achieved.
