Cameron Menzies was the best at
Players Championship 29 on Wednesday. In the final, he defeated Stephen Bunting 8-4. For the 35-year-old Scot, it was the first PDC ranking title of his career, but he might yet find himself on the recieving end of financial repercussions.
Menzies couldn't believe his luck after his first PDC ranking title and took to social media to celebrate. "Fat boy did a thing," he wrote on his
official X account, in celebration of his breakthrough, ranking tournament victory.
The Scot was clearly playing on a cloud after his final victory at Players Championship 29 and also managed to qualify for the
Grand Slam of Darts at the last chance qualifier on Friday afternoon. Once again, Menzies took to social media: "Fat boy did another thing," he wrote this time around.
Cameron Menzies in action
Menzies' final against Bunting at Players Championship 29 could be watched on the PDC's livestream last Wednesday. After throwing the winning double, Menzies momentarily forgot his place, exclaiming: "Get in ya fat f*ck," something that was picked up on by the audience watching on at home.
Whilst fans found the funny side, the PDC does not usually laugh at things like this, so there is a good chance that this will have to come before the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA), which may still fine Menzies for these statements. Although the prize money that the Scottish star captured with this title and his participation in the Grand Slam of Darts will likely alleviate some of that suffering.
The Grand Slam of Darts kicks off next Saturday in Wolverhampton, England, with the final being played on Nov. 17. For Menzies, it will be his second participation in this tournament; he previously attended in 2017, then as a BDO player.
